Health and Wellness Predicted Trends
- Mental Wellness and Technology
- Wellness Sabbaticals
- CBD
From my personal research on upcoming health and wellness trends of 2020, the topics in this list are what were seen the most.
Mental Wellness and Technology
Technological advancements have pushed therapeutics from the therapist’s couch, to the comfort of your own screen.
Individuals are turning to chatbots, apps and digital support groups seeking comfort in others that experience the same modern-day issues. These issues included, but are not limited to, loneliness, anxiety, and burn-out.
A reason why this trend is becoming so popular is because of the availability and affordability alternative to seeking doctor’s attention. Potential patients often want to seek attention right away instead of waiting weeks to see a doctor, technology helps.

Wellness Sabbaticals
The term “sabbatical” can be traced back to the biblical term for a day of rest—the Sabbath. In years past, it was often teachers and academics who took a year off to spend time researching, writing or traveling. More recently, the term has been used to describe any time away from the traditional work environment that is used to recharge and to pursue personal passions.

Wellness sabbatical’s are successful when work and wellness programming are flexible and are tailored to each person’s needs.
Ideally a wellness sabbatical is located in a place that has beautiful serene outdoor features. This helps when taking the mind off of work and relaxing the mind and body.
What you can expect to be apart of your schedule or options while on a wellness sabbatical:
- Movement and exercise
- Healthy menu options
- Stress-reducing treatments
- Meditation
- Healthy sleep
A main take away from this sabbatical is to return home and to your normal schedule with your ideal personal balance of work and personal pursuits.

Cannabidiol (CBD)
Cannabidiol (CBD for short) is a trend that has gained a lot of media attention recently. Before opinions are formed of CBD I think it is important to understand what it is fully.
Cannabidiol is a chemical compound in Marijuana. CBD is found in oils, creams, edibles etc, and if someone were to use a product with CBD in it they would feel the benefits of relaxation and calmness.
It is important to recognize the difference between CBD and THC. CBD, like stated above, gives the user a relaxation and calmness sensation. THC, is the psychoactive component in Marijuana that gives off the high, THC is the major active ingredient in Marijuana. CBD is NOT psychoactive.
Now that we have distinguished the difference between CBD and THC here are some scientific proven benefits of CBD.
- CBD is currently FDA-approved for treatment of certain types of epilepsy
- Alleviates muscle and joint pain
- Reduces anxiety and depression
- Aids in osteoarthritis
- And some even swear by it when battling cancer

When having thoughts of using CBD to help alleviate health conditions, talk to your doctor and make sure that you are using a CBD product from a reputable source and ask to see test-results from the product.

Laryn, I too took that class as a high schooler, and I think that really helped me succeed when applying for colleges. I am glad that you have had a positive response and that you continue to learn.
